4th Annual All India Salsa Championships (Amateurs), Bangalore, 8th August, 2009
Last year we had competitors from all over India. This year's competition promises to be more exciting than last year as we already have a lot of confirmed participants.
Last date for Registrations is July 30th 2009
Entry Fee : Rs. 1000/- per couple

1st Place : Certificate + Trophy
2nd Place: Certificate + Trophy
Rules:
1. Costumes are a must. Jeans are not considered as costumes. Ladies must wear fishnets and Gentlemen please wear socks.
2. 80% of your music must be authentic salsa music. 20% of your music is allowed from other genres.
3. Lifts, Tricks and Drops are allowed in the Amateur category. Your lifts must add to your salsa choreography and not be the highlight of your routine.
4. Theme based routines are allowed and so are props.
5. The time limit is set at 1:50 (Minimum) - 2:30(Maximum)
6. The dance order of contestants will be determined by lotto the night of the competition
7. Contestants must prepare their own choreography and bring 2 copies of their CD. Only one song must be burned on the CD. Also make sure that Both CDs are from different manufacturers. The DJ will not speed up or slow down your music.
Judging criteria:
1. Timing 40% - - Was correct rhythm maintained throughout the routine?
Were syncopations deliberate and within the acceptable deviations of timing for the dance? As you can notice by the guidelines, the judges will be looking closely to the timing of the contestants. This criteria alone represents 40% of the overall score.
2. Appearance and Showmanship 10% - How professional and polished did the team appear to be? Did they project to the audience and capture their attention?
3. Choreography/Originality 10% - How well put together was the performance? Did the routine flow easily from one movement to the next? Was there something clever or new that was part of the routine? Was musical was it?
4. Connection / Partnering Skills 15% - How well did the couple work together as a team? Was there an actual Lead/Follow relationship established? How synchronized was the team during side-by-side movement or shines?
5. Technique 15% - Reflected through balance, placement and line. Partners must reflect adequate "Latin/Salsa Motion" and "Isolations" as designated by the dance style. Movement should appear to be effortless. These are all reflections of good dance technique.
6. Difficulty 10% - What was the level of the turns utilized? The amount of turns both double and single foot? By both parties or only one? How intricate were the shines? what was the difficulty of the lift-work? Was it properly executed? How about jumps, kicks? Any movements requiring exceptional balance, flexibility or strength? Were all movements attempted successfully executed. |
